The Turkey Sale and WMSC Ski Swap are on this year from 9th-12th Oct. This is a great weekend to sell your old equipment and find great deals on used equipment other than our own CSC Ski Swap.

http://www.whistlerblackcomb.com/todo/events/detail/turkey_sale/index.htm

K1 - The WMSC ski swap is a good place for K1 parents to get hold of some good skis for new K1's, a 140cm slalom ski is good for most first year K1 kids depending on height and weight. GS skis for K1 are optional, the main time they will use these are for the speed training camp  in January or for GS races, however they are not mandatory. If you do wish to purchase GS skis for K1 a 155/160cm GS ski is normally fine depending on height and weight of the athlete.

K2 - This is good opportunity to look for Super-G skis at great prices.  The WMSC ski swap normally has several pairs, just check for edge left on the ski and condition of base.  There are normally people there to advise however if you need advice please call me.

We will be holding the CSC Ski Swap at Snowcovers on Sunday 25th Oct (Provisional Date - TBC). If you need any help and advice on equipment please feel free to call me. CheersShona

The 2009-10 ski season is just around the corner and Cypress Ski Club opened their programs for registration today! Cypress Ski Club offers alpine ski programs for all ages. You can register online under "Programs" on the new club web site. Hurry up and register before programs become full and to avoid a late fee. The season will include a short Olympic break but our program director, Shona Crawford and our board worked very hard to put together a schedule that is a full 12 weeks or more for all programs despite the disruptions from Cypress Mountain hosting 2010 Olympic events. See the programs section for more details.

Also today, the club launched its brand new web site. We hope you like it. Members will notice right away that you will need to create an account for the site to login and register. This allows you to access the functions we've designed into the site including posting comments, subscribing to newsletters, blogs, and news, posting images to our photo gallery, and posting items to our buy and sell. There are many other options and new features on the site that will allow for great communications between members. I'd love to hear your feedback so if you get a chance, email me, Ron Wakkary (Club President) at president@cypressskiclub.com

Mt Hood Camp
News
Sunday, August 23, 2009 - 8:11pm

Mt Hood training camp, from 8th-15th August, was a great week on the glacier. The first three days on snow were awesome in full sunshine, hard snow in the morning and good training space alongside some local ski clubs and a Japanese Ski Team. The CSC Team consisted of 4 K2's plus 1 VST athlete who were all in great spirits despite getting rained off the mountain on Wed morning after two hours and again on the Friday when the mountain was closed down due to lack of visibility. However, we managed to get 7 ski days and had some great fun dryland sessions such as a waterfall hike and windsurfing in Hood River. The main focus for the camp was GS training which progressed well throughout the week finishing up with timed runs in full suits through a full GS course on the last day. All of the athletes greatly improved and acheived their goals for the week, well done. Check out the photo gallery for some pics of the trip.

The July dryland camp to Hornby Island was a great success! 9 athletes plus 4 adults attended the camp with Coach, Shona Crawford at the Tribune Outdoor Education Centre. The program, lead by the Tribune staff, was full on each day with activities from 9am-9pm with some free time in the afternoon to hit up the beach for an hour. Some of the activities included high ropes courses, kayaking, climbing wall, hiking, and other fun activities to challenge the athletes in many ways and improve their athletic confidence. This is a great way to encourage team building and to challenge the children in another environment. We stayed in huts and dorms on the campsite and had a great social area to cook and eat for the whole group before enjoying campfire activities in the evening. Shona Crawford said “This camp was such a great experience for the team and will become an annual camp for K1 and K2 athletes. Hornby is a great wee place and it introduced the children to another way of life as well as some good challenging activities”. Tribune Outdoor Education Centre has been going for 20 years and is run by Gord Campbell, is it a great family run facility for groups and they are very accommodating for your every need. A big thank you to Tribune Outdoor Education Centre for making our trip very memorable.
