To inquire about our programs, please contact registrar@cypressskiclub.com

The K1 Program is the first level of Alpine Ski Racing for 11-12 year olds. This is the start of their journey as a competitive skier. K1 racers build on their skills from Kstar/Kstar+ and adapt to a more competitive atmosphere.  This program is focused on developing technical skills in a fun competitive environment where each individual is encouraged to explore their capabilities.

Program Info K1 training involves free skiing with a coach through varied terrain, gate training, and skill development through drills and exercise.  The training sessions run over two evening sessions plus the weekend to allow maximal time on snow to develop.  In addition to regular training, there are also competitive opportunities through Coast Zone races which culminate with the annual Provincial championships. Ski camps during the school year take place, if possible, during long weekends to minimize children’s absence from school.  The camps are optional and their cost is not included in the  program fee.
Duration

Training at Cypress Mountain on Tuesday and Thursday 5.30-8.30pm plus Saturday and Sunday 8.30am-2.30pm, Nov-Apr/May.

Dryland training for the K1’s is available during the Summer and pre-season. The on-snow training will begin in November with a fall camp for 4/5 days at Sun Peaks or Apex. During a winter season, K1 racers can expect to have from 45 to 65 days and nights of skiing depending on the weather conditions.   The full schedule will be posted on our website.

Races You can view the full race schedule on our website and www.bcalpine.com. These are optional extras and will be organised by the Head K1 Coach.  You will be asked to indicate your interest in these camps at the start of the season.

The K1 Program is for children of ages 11 and 12 (children must be either 11 or 12 years old as of December 31st).

Program fees are adjusted before every season. Every effort is done to minimize the costs while not compromising the safety of our children and the quality of training.

K2 is focused on encouraging further development of ski skills, tactics, fitness training and mental training to prepare for a higher level of racing.  Training is the predominant activity and races are viewed as training for future performance development. K2 racers maintain a competitive atmosphere throughout their training program but each individual is still encouraged to refine their technical free skiing skills.  This program allows individuals to grow as athletes and enjoy a positive environment with their peers.

J1/FIS – 15 years old and up ($3500)

International Ski Federation (FIS) program is intended for alpine racers who have finished K2 program and are looking to continue the challenges of ski racing.

The FIS program is 10 months in duration and starts with dryland in June, summer camps and fall camps before starting the first competition in mid-December. They train mostly locally on Cypress and Grouse mountains, although also take advantage of skiing at Whistler and Apex.

The FIS team competes mainly in BC and Alberta, although higher level athletes will make trips to eastern Canada and the US if required.

All FIS athletes are eligible for a Canada West all areas pass which allows them to train at any resort in western Canada for a low annual fee.

Schooling can be more of a challenge at FIS level due to the additional time spent away from home. However, we find that athletes who make this commitment frequently end up doing better at school due to their superior organizational and time management skills. Several athletes on the VST maintain a 90% average or better at school through the winter season.

The ultimate goal of the VST is two-fold - firstly to progress athletes to the BC provincial team and secondly that athletes continue their love for the sport and grow physically and emotionally through the FIS program.
We understand that not every athlete has a goal of making the provincial ski team and are sensitive to each athletes individual needs.

The program will give an athlete many more positive lessons in life than just winning and losing. Some athletes will want to focus primarily on the home based program and races so they can direct their energies into education and so each program is individualized and is developed within the parameters of the athletes goals in ski racing and life.
