Dear CSC members,
I want to thank Shona and the coaching staff for responding very quickly
with alternate training plans to get all of our young NGSL and Alpine racers
through the recent mountain closings. I also want to thank both you the
parents and children for responding to the changes due to the bad weather
and the Olympics with a positive attitude and outlook. The rains and warm
weather have hit all the North Shore mountains hard (and all the ski clubs!)
but the forecast looks promising for next week and its very likely one of
our sister mountains will provide us a local option for training originally
planned at Cypress before the Olympics. Lucky for us, Whistler conditions
are very good with 40-65 cm forecast over the weekend!
Despite the bad news with the weather, the Cypress Ski Club Board and
volunteers have been very active. We have been working on a new members
drive for next season and a campaign for new community business partners to
help with sponsorship of the club. Cypress Mountain and VANOC have a lot on
their plate at the moment but we are discussing with them the club's role in
legacy projects on the mountain for after the Olympics. Stay tuned for more
from our energetic board and volunteers! And let me know if you want to get
involved.
It has been a good season to date, the NGSL racers had a great time and did
very well at the Seymour NGSL event this past weekend. Our K1 and K2 racers
have had a number of top ten finishes at Whistler and Hemlock races, and
many of our K1 racers will be in the upcoming BC Games. We owe a lot to our
coaching staff who have helped our young skiers progress so well.
Let me know if there are ways we can make this season even better or how the
CSC Board and Shona can fine tune our plans for the remaining schedule this
year. In the meantime, I look forward to seeing many of you at Whistler this
weekend where heaps of fresh powder will help us forget the sorrows of the
North Shore mountains.
